William Questions About Steam Carpet Cleaning Machines

William asks…

Is 20-25 psi normal for an idling Chevy Vortec V-8 5.7 liter engine? It sounds fine and it goes up with RPM.?

I recently purchased a 1998 Chevy 3500 work van with 120,000 miles on it. Note also that it is a PTO ( runs from vehicles engine via a drive shaft) carpet cleaning van so of course there is an additional 5,000 hours of run time on the engine. It’s a Steam Genie unit that cost $12,000 in 1997 so me paying $3,300 for the van and carpet machine, hoses, wands and reels was a steal even if the engine is questionable. This is the main reason I didn’t do a detailed investigation before I handed over the money. I’ve had the van for 3 days and now I think it’s time to check it over better before I begin using it for my carpet cleaning business.
So first I would like to have someone with more knowledge about the Chevy V-8 help me with this question about oil pressure. My last van was a Dodge with no oil pressure gauge so I never had any idea how a big American engine behaves with oil . My cars have always been 4 cylinder Japanese models. In fact I still drive a 1990 Geo Storm and it’s oil pressure is almost pegged on the gauge. My passengers always tell me that it looks like my oil pressure is too high when they look over at the dash. All I know is it is a 20 year old car that runs great and doesn’t burn through oil. Got to love the Isuzu engineers who designed that engine.
Thanks for any help.

Yes its fine its not so much the pressure as much as having it instantly, oil pressure is dictated by clearances in the motor but as long as the guage goes up when you start the truck youll be fine especially because those guages are very inaccurate. When it starts dropping below that you have a problem internally in the motor

Cat urinating on carpet question?

I have a cat thats about 7 yrs old and she is an indoor/outdoor cat. In fact she spends most of the day outside. We also adopted 2 other cats about 2 yrs ago. They are indoor cats. At first the older cat did not like the other two, but they seem OK now. Well, we put our cats in a finished family room we have in the basement at night. Its a huge room they can play and they don’t bother us while we sleep. But I think the older cat has been urinating outside of the litter box and also she urinated on one of those fleece cat beds that I bought.
How do I get her to stop? Will that machine you rent from the store take out the odor? Should I get a professional steam cleaning person to come in? Obviously, I cannot see where the cat has done this.
Oh, also any suggestions about what type of air cleaner to use in my basement?
don’t forget about suggestions for an air cleaner/purifier? I want to plug one in overnight or even before we have company.

She should go to the vet cause she could have a Urinary Tract Infection. My cat just was diagnosed with it. UTI’s are VERY painful. Then the cat associates the pain to the litter box and thats why they go in weird places. If she does have it and you let it go it will be MUCH harder to get rid of and much more expensive. Also if its left for too long she could get a severe infection or get blocked and she could die, so it would be best to get her checked out. Good Luck and I hope shes fine. icon smile Questions About Steam Carpet Cleaning Machines

Steven asks…

Why can’t I breathe at night?

When I lie down at night, my nose stuffs up and I am unable to breathe. Breathing through my mouth does not help at all- I feel like I am being strangled. If I sit upright I can breathe, but as soon as I lay back down I am unable to fall asleep, as I feel as though I am choking.
I’ve tried breathing strips and allergy medicines- those don’t really seem to work. I’ve also steam cleaned all my carpeting and drapes in case it was an allergy.
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, but when I use the machine I get the same feeling of not being able to breathe. I was told it could be anxiety, so I take valium at night, and while it does sometimes help a great deal, it doesn’t always work. On those nights I can’t sleep, I sleep upright in a sitting position and get very poor rest.
Any ideas?

You might need to go back in and have them adjust your CPAP/BiPAP/AutoPAP machine. Remember there are many different types of masks available as well and you could also have a humidifier attached to your machine to help with the stuffiness of your nose. Do you have a full face mask, nasal mask, or nasal pillows? If you would like to, you can email me for some more help, I work in a sleep lab and have been working with the machines for years now.

Paul Questions About Steam Carpet Cleaning Machines

Paul asks…

demon in my house or am I going crazy?

I am a 25 year old female and mother of two boys one 5 and the other 15 month’s. 8 months ago we moved into a 2,000 sq foot brick home built in the 70′s and located in a rural area. My husband was stationed in Germany when we bought the home so I left my children with my parents at night and came to the new house to paint and steam clean. The first night I was alone in the empty house it was pouring rain outside and I was steam cleaning when I heard my father (who was supposed to be babysitting across town) calling my name so I turned off the machine and rushed into the other rooms to see why he was here and the house was empty. We moved our things in and I began hearing voices at random times during the day and night. I put a tape recorder in the kitchen and picked up growling and a man yelling “NO”! My husband is very religious and told me to be right with God and to ignore the voices and things moving around the house. Then I started having vivid dream about another family living here and dogs in the house…troubled sleep for months. Last night was the breaking point when my husband finally got a taste of what I have been going through. The children were sleeping and it was around midnight. My husband was in the master bedroom and I was in the living room watching TV. I felt like someone was looking at me and I kept hearing someone talking in the kitchen so I decided it would be best to call it a night. We were laying in bed and I was telling him yet again about the things I had been hearing and how I do not understand why I am the only one hearing these things when we both heard a loud crack and a thud like something hit the carpet. We both said at the same time ,”what was that” and I hit the bedside light and we did not see anything on the floor so my husband got out of bed and walked around the foot of the bed and on the floor was a crucifix that we kept on the dresser. Meaning it had flown nearly 8 feet, in the dark, by itself, and slammed into our foot board. About 10 minutes later we hear a very creepy growling noise over the baby monitor followed by a slapping noise so we both rushed into the boys room and they were sleeping on there bunk beds and nothing in the room had been moved. We woke the boys up and brought them to our room so we could all sleep together but continued to hear things moving in the house. When we got up the next morning the crucifix is missing and we have yet to find it. The children and I are now spending nights at my parents house and my husband is still hearing things, he heard me calling him when he was in bed but when he got up no one was here. I just want to know what I need to do to get this thing out of my house and wonder what it is doing here in the first place. We are good christian people so why is this happening to us. I am afraid to tell other people because they will think we are nuts. What can we do and who can we go to for help?

There are a few theoretical explanations for phenomenon like this, but I do not think that there is a Demon in your house. “Ghostly,” or “Demonic” activity in a household is most widely believed to be attributed to electromagnetic activity occurring at high levels in certain areas in the home. This can cause you to hear noises, have visual hallucinations, and in some cases cause objects to physically move without any apparent physical prompting, according to several scientific theories.
You probably aren’t going crazy, and I doubt highly that there is a demon in your household. You could go to a church, or religious organization for help with this problem, but I somehow think that it would still persist. I would suggest contacting someone who can measure the amount of electromagnetic activity that exists in your living space, and offer suggestions as to fixing the problem. It may be a problem with wiring, or that there are too many appliances in your house.
It may seem odd that electricity is the problem, but if you realize that the human brain operates largely based off of electrical signals sent through receptors all over your body, you can start to imagine how this might effect your sensory perception, even in these extreme ways. I provide links in the source citation area that will help you understand this phenomenon.
I can’t recommend an expert in the field to you, but a small amount of searching may yield an available expert in your area who will take readings of the activity in your house. You may also need to have rewiring done to stop this from continuing. I hope that your situation improves, and that this helped you slightly. I’m sorry I can’t offer a spiritual explanation for this, but I do not believe that this is a spiritual problem, merely a scientific one.
