how much would a carpet repair person charge to repair a tear the size of a quarter with no damage to padding?
carpet is provided. very inexpensive type of carpeting

Depending on where you live, it could actually take the repair tech longer to drive to your home than it does to fix this type of repair… So a basic service charge is all I would expect. Since that varies around the country, you’re going to have to call your local carpet installers for that info, but I would expect it to run between $30 – $50.
If you have a hot melt glue gun, and a little patience you could try repairing this yourself. The basic approach is to pull the cut together, and glue it in place… If you’ve had some practice at it, it actually goes pretty quickly. The trick is to have a good ‘seam’. A pair of needle nose pliers is handy for a small tear like this. You need to stuff some sort of material under the carpet to act as a ‘backer’ for the glue…any kind of rough cloth will work fine, or you can use a piece of carpet tape. Just tuck it under so that it is on both sides of the tear. Lift one side of the tear a bit and apply some hot melt to the underside of the carpet, on the fiber, or tape. Press the carpet into the hot glue (but be careful not to burn yourself…the glue is hot after all, hehehe). After a couple of minutes it will be cool enough, you can pull the other side of the tear up to it, and apply a little more hot melt under that side, and press the carpet down into it, working along the tear/seam…tucking the fiber in, so that there are no loose ends.
Usually there is enough stretch in a carpet that this is fairly easy to do, without needing a carpet stretcher, especially on a tear this small. If you do find that you can’t get the tear to close properly, you can ask a second pair of hands for some help… You can either tug the carpet and hammer a couple of roofing nails partway into the floor to help hold the carpet in place, or you can actually pull it up from the edge of the room.
It normally runs about $30/room to have a carpet stretched/trimmed… So you may want to have that done, if you are hiring this out. They might even do the repair for free, if you are having a couple of rooms stretched.
Good Luck

How much would it cost to repair apartment carpet??
My cat loooves to scratch at the carpet at the door of my apartment. She has completely torn up the carpet at the corner of the door. It’s like down to the wood. The carpet type is the berber stuff, I don’t know. But I was wondering how much would that cost to repair? Do I have to pay to just get that spot repaired or do I have to pay for the whole place to be re-carpeted in the apartment??

Hi KC
well you don’t have to replace the whole place, You can have a carpet person repaire only the spot. It may cost around 300 or less.
I do have cats as well, You would need to get a cat scracher and put it next to were the carpet was completely torn. Cats most of the time like to find only one good spot for them to used all the time.

How to repair a cigarette burn in my carpet? I have a burn pretty much the length of a cigarette for fix.?
At a party last night at my place someone knocked a cigarette off the ashtray and it layed on my carpet til it burnt itself out. Now I have a 2 1/2 inch burn in my carpet. I have leftovers of the same and was curious if i can repair the carpet so its not so obvioius. Its right in the middle of my living room floor.

admin answers:
You could try cutting out the burned section, and replace it with a matching carpet patch.
Of course, if you have a thicker carpet pile, it will look less obvious than if u had a carpet with a flat pile.
If this is not an option, you could move some furnature a little bit and cover it up.

How do you repair carpet that has had a 550lb. fish tank sitting on it for 2 years?
There’s a large square pressed completely into the carpet and I’m afraid the area is ruined.

admin answers:
Fluff it up with a hair brush, vaccum it regularly and give it some time. My waterbed used to leave the same kind of marks, they come out over time usually.
