What is wrong with my leopard gecko’s eye?

So my leopard gecko was always pretty healthy and such, she is a bit less than 2 years old…and technically she is my brother’s but he doesn’t take care of her so I do everything, plus I think I like her more than he does anyways, so I’m okay with it. Ever since winter has started she has been having horrible sheds, her 2nd to last shed she couldn’t get it off her head and ended up rubbing her eye all over a little rock in her tank. We took her to the vet because we noticed a bit of swelling and he told us that she just had some irritation and he gave us some eye drops. She was getting better until her very last shed and her eye got completely WORSE. It looks swollen with black all over it. We have tried using Qtips to help, cotton balls, anything and nothing has helped. I can’t get her into the vet til friday because I’m literally broke right now (hey I’m a cheap college student!), but I really don’t want her to be miserable til then. It has been like this for more than a week and it’s only getting worse. My brother won’t take her either so it’s gotta wait til I can pay. She has had a good appetite and still eats her crickets but she doesn’t like to “play” much anymore. She was always very active and wanted to come out of her cage but now all she does is sit.

She is on reptile carpet so I don’t think any sand got in her eye, and her crickets are kept elsewhere so I don’t think they agitated it or anything…any advice is greatly appreciated!

Sorry about the blurryness, shes not the best at holding still!
I know she has to go to the herp vet and I AM taking her on friday but is there anything I can possibly do to help her before she goes in since friday is a ways away?? And what is causing the black eyelid thing?? HELP!!

and yes she does have a humid hide.

Something like that happened with one of my geckos a while back. He was shedding and I guess the way he rubbed the shed caught his eye lid and it couldn’t get loose. A wet q-tip and a steady hand worked for him. For now all I can safely suggest is remove the carpet and replace with paper towels. They are softer. Then keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn’t get any worse and then take her to the vet on Friday.

How do i convince my parents to let me get this dog?

im 13, an only child, i have 3 guinea pigs and 2 dogs currently. i reallly want another dog, a little dog. i found one on petfinder.com , a tiny chihuahua named daphnie, and she is only 4 lbs and is 7 years old, and was rescued from a puppy mill. my parents complain that if we get another dog it will shed, which this one would not (plus its the same color as our carpet), they say they want it housetrained, which this one is, say it has to get along with our dogs, which this one would, they say they dont want a big dog, which this one isnt, and they say they want to adopt, not buy, and this one is in a shelter. i reallly want her and my parents know this. my mom said maybe i could get her if i got rid of my guinea pigs which i realllly dont want to do. i love them a lot! whatever i do, it has to be quick because she might be adopted anytime! i have 2 dogs already, which i take care of a lot. and my parents know this. i brush, walk, bathe, feed, and let them out. idk why they wont let me have her! weve been talking about getting another dog for a month now! i found one and they wont let me get her? please help! thanks

It sounds like the talking about the issues is just that – talk. They didn’t commit to another dog just by giving a list of what they would want in another dog, they just said “IF we get a dog, it has to be….” and then told you what they would want IF you guys were to get another dog.

Mom and dad are the primary adult care givers – they pay a few grand a month to keep the house and vehicles, pay for groceries, etc. They’re already paying a couple hundred a month or so for the two dogs you have AND your guinea pigs.

THEY would be the ones paying for the new dog and it’s care, so maybe THAT’S why they won’t let you get her – you wouldn’t be getting her, they would be. You taking care of the animals or not have nothing to do with it – money does.

Getting a dog, or a second/third/fourth is not a “quick” decision to make. You have to visit this dog to see if it would fit in with your family (you only have a picture and a shelter description to go on right now), you have to introduce your current dogs to the potential new dog (it’s possible that the dog you are looking at WON’T get along with other dogs), you have to DISCUSS options with the whole family…. You never know, this dog online may be totally different in person and may not even work out!

As a minor not even working, you have to listen to mom and dad AND respect their decisions. That’s life and you have to accept it. Period.

my cat won’t eat his food with the pills in it?

my cat went missing and only returned recently after 6 days, when he came home he was really sick and couldn’t keep no food down plus he kept throwing up on the carpet and he wouldn’t use the litter box he would just go on the floor so we knew something was wrong..we took him to the vet and they said he had to stay overnight cause he was dehydrated and also needed medication for his worms and antibiotics for a cut he had..it cost us over $600.00 and they gave us pills to put in his food to help with his worms and dehydration but he won’t eat it and as soon as he came home he was walking around the house crying again….why do vets only care about money and how can i help my cat when a vet can’t even do it,does anyone know a way i can get him to take the pills??? also he’s only young 2 1/2 years old(if that makes a difference)

The trick is getting the medication into him and he will feel better real soon…you need to give him the medication by hand..this works but its a bit to explain..have one person hold the cat and the other person opens the cats mouth and pushs the pill as far into the mouth as possible (you have to be quick) then gently hold the mouth closed and stroke the cats throat until you can feel him swallow…be care full he will not like this and could fight back claws and all…but your not hurting him your trying to help him feel better…hang in there…you can do it…

Ruth Questions About Carpet Care Plus

Ruth asks…

Flea control, SOCal, Is it just the summertime?

Hey all, so I’m wondering the best way to win back my house from fleas.

At the moment we have 3 pets that all live indoors, 1 cat and 2 dogs.

the cat is on frontline, 1 dog is on Frontline Plus, and the other is on Revolution.

All the pets are indoor pets but we do frequent the dog park with the dogs. So at the moment, i can pick fleas off of one of my dogs at a rate of about 6-8 a day. The other dog (a black poodle) probably has a few, but i cant see them and they dont seem to bother her. The cat has quite a few too.

We have tried spraying the carpet and it seems to work for a little while, but never the less, they seem to always come back. We got some flea traps (they are en route) but i was wondering what products i should treat my carpet/furniture with to try to get this taken care of.

We have probably 8-900 sq feet of carpet in the house, including stairs. If we lay long term carpet powders, are they safe for the dogs? Should we bomb each room, and if so, is that safe for the pets?
This is some great info, and im glad that im not alone!

I bought (a few days back) some of those flea traps (basically a small heat lamp above a sticky surface) which will probably accomplish the same job as the heat lamp above a dish of water.

The vacuum i have (ironically) is a bagless one with a Hepa ffilter (which sucking up all that powder just completely clogs up) should i get a basic bag vacuum to handle this?

Also, ill avoid the bombs if a can, as that seems like its going to be a huge hassle. Ill try to get some decent carpet powder or try the baking soda/salt one and see what happens.

Can anyone name some decent powder to try that i would be able to find at a petco/petsmart?

Also, to add, my pets arent overly irritated (they are both small dogs) so i might not have it as bad as i think, but its just nasty.

I did it for about 10 years when I had indoor outdoor kitties, now only indoor, so no need any more but it was a life savor!!

How I got rid of fleas and bugs from my home

You will need to purchase a simple bug/fly zapper; the type you use on a patio to kill flying insects. You can buy a small one that will cover a large area of your house at most home improvement stores for as little as 20.00-30.00 dollars. For faster results you can use one bug zapper for each room. However the fleas do gravitate to the bug zapper’s light once night sets in and all the lights in your house are out. So one should work for a small home, just make sure to place it in the room where the most fleas are seen or felt. Place the zapper on the floor in a corner behind a piece of furniture so kids and pets won’t play with or bother it. Set it on a plate or pie tin for easy cleaning up of the zapped bugs, you will be killing all bugs in your home as well, and then plug it in. Remember, it is a piece of electrical equipment. You have to use caution in where you put it. At night the fleas automatically want to go to a light, when they hop in to the bug zapper light they get fried! You can actually hear little, zits, zits when the fleas are getting zapped! All GONE! Keep the carpet vacuumed daily until your flea problem is under control, this will help tremendously in getting the fleas eggs out of your home and carpet faster!! I am not responsible for misuse of the above item. Use full caution in placing your bug zapper to the safest place. It will work for months, even years; it will continue to kill bugs in your home as long as the light is on. The bulb can be replaced once it burns out. The light bulb can be purchased at most home improvement stores. Http://www.samstores.com/_images/products/FLOWTRON_BK15.jpg
