I had a white, ivory white carpet, in my house for 9 years. When I put it up for sale no one could believe that carpet was that old. I am sure part of it was it was very good carpet and second, I shampooed my carpets often. I have always owned my own Hoover shampooer. And I believe if you shampoo them often, and go over the carpet extra to remove as much water as possible it will keep them newer looking.
I also from time to time, like maybe every other year or third year had a professional clean them. I found one that cleaned extra hard around the edges of the carpet where it meets the wall and that helped keep the edges from darkening.
Good luck, oh, one more thing clean spills immediately if possible. Hot Shot is a good spot cleaner that is sold at Wal-mart and other places and it is inexpensive.

What are the best leather & carpet care detail products for a mercedes slk 350?
I am getting paid to fully detail someone’s mercedes 350 tomorrow and they do not want Armor All leather care products as it makes their seats too slippery. Also on their driver seat they have a worn mark in the leather that is about 5 inches long and looks like a scar. What type of leather care product should I use for this scar treatment and for regular upkeep of the rest of the seats? Also, what is the best way to clean the carpets in a car? I know what to do with the outside but I just have cloth seats in mine and usually just brush out the dirt. Thanks!

admin answers:
If you have not cleaned leather before then make sure you use professional leather care products rather than OTC ones as most of these are similar to Armor All and will not get good results.
You will get better product support and advice from the suppliers of professional leather products.
A worn area on the drivers seat will not ‘clean’ out and will need some sort of repair/restoration depending on what has caused the problem in the first place. This is generally best left ot someone who has been trained to do these repairs as any DIY attempt may go wrong and make the matter far worse. You need to talk to your customer about what results he is expecting from your cleaning process.
There are several good professional leather cleaning products on the market try:

Follow with a quality protector and this will help to make the leather easier to keep clean and stop dye transfer etc. Avoid conditioners that contain waxes and oils or say that they replace these in the leather as this is not possible to do.
To download a free leather care leaflet

If you want the problem on the seat analysed take some photos and send them to LTT who will look at the problem and advise the best course of action.
If you want to know more about leather and its care and maintenance they also do training courses and LTT technicians have the best reputation for their work.
Hope this helps
